Action 5 - Awareness raising campaign in SPAIN

A detailed plan of action has been prepared. The brochures has been printed and the DVDs has been burned in Spanish language. The campaign has been directed towards the olive mill, olive dressing factory owners and cooperatives. AEMO has edited manuscripts and submit them for publication on agricultural specialized magazines. AEMO has advertised the message of the awareness raising campaign during Montoro Trade 2010 and Expoliva Trade 2011. 5 internal meetings has been organized, with a minimum of 8 stakeholders each, in order to involve them into the objective to change the behaviour of the olive mill owners related to OWM and others. AEMO presentation has been shown, explained and distributed among the participants. AEMO has used its network structure to facilitate the awareness raising campaign through its “Resource Centres of the Olive”, distributed in 11 Spanish provinces to organize the meetings. 24 meetings has been arranged with an average of 35 participants each. AEMO has edited manuscripts introducing the awareness campaign and submit them for publication on agricultural specialized magazines like “Mercacei” and “e-OlivarOli” and others. AEMO has contacted by mail or e-mail the olive mill and olive dressing owners and cooperatives and send or give by hand at least 1,500 brochures. 75 DVDs realised on the new eco-friendly technologies has been distributed among the olive mill and olive dressing factory owners and cooperatives. Although there are not quantitative monitoring data, the interest of the participants was high and three entrepreneurs expressed their interest in adopting two of the selected technologies. Meetings with the public authorities (Ministry of the Agriculture and Fish (Agencia para el Aceite de Oliva), Consejería of Agriculture of Andalusia, Patrimonio Comunal Olivarero, IOOC, some majors of AEMO municipalities has been organized in order to update and develop the EU environmental policy and legislation in the field of agro-industrial waste management. A draft proposal is going to be submitted to the national LIFE office (Ministerio de Medioambiente, Madrid) indicating the eco-friendly technologies with the lower social/environmental impact factor identified after the awareness raising campaign.
